Annual Competition

The Australian Society of Magicians (ASM) Assembly no.1 hold an annual competition in Melbourne during the December meeting.

There have been many different trophies handed out over the years, including The Levante Shield.

Competiton Rules

To maintain a level playing field the rules of the competition are as follows.

  1. Entrants will be placed into one of two categories; Up-and-coming magicians OR Experienced magicians – with awards presented to the winners of each category (so if you’re in the up-and-coming category, you’re not competing against a professional magician)
  2. Acts are strictly limited to 8 minutes. A warning will be given at 7 minutes, and points will be deducted for going over time.
  3. The performing area will be set for close-up parlour performances. If you require more room (for a stage piece) please let the committee know ahead of time so that we can re-arrange the room for you.
  4. Points will be allocated to each act by the judges, based:
    • Originality
    • Performance and Audience Response
    • Themes and Routining
    • Magical Effect and Impact
  5. Entrants must be fully paid, current, financial or life members.
  6. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category, as determined by the judges. The judges decisions are final.
  7. Please register your intent to compete with the Presidient or Vice-President when you arrive.

Spectators/friends/family are welcome to attend the event – so if you are competing, please feel free to bring them along.

Good Luck!
